Which Nest should I choose?
Choosing the right Nest depends on the size of your ant colony. The Small Nest is ideal for starter colonies with 1-30 ants, depending on the species. The Medium Nest is better suited for colonies that need more space, typically ranging from 30-150 ants. The Large Nest is designed for larger colonies with 150+ workers. Keep in mind that different ant species have varying space requirements due to their size. As your colony grows, you can easily expand their habitat by adding another Nest module.
Do you sell ants?
No, we do not sell ants. However, there are many reputable ant stores where you can purchase ants, or you can try to find ants in nature if it is permissible in your area. Always make sure to follow local laws and regulations, and treat all natural habitats and insects with respect.
Where do you ship your formicaria, and what are the shipping times?
We ship our formicaria internationally. Shipping times vary depending on your location. For orders within Sweden, delivery usually takes 1-3 days. For other European countries and the US, please allow a few extra days for delivery. We strive to pick and pack orders as quickly as possible to ensure timely shipping.
Do I need anything else besides the Nest?
Yes, in addition to the Nest, you will need an outworld where the ants can forage. We also recommend a liquid feeder, particularly for providing sugar water, which is essential for the health of your ant colony.
What ant species does this formicarium work for?
The Nest Formicarium is suitable for almost all ant species commonly kept by ant enthusiasts. The only exceptions are certain exotic species, such as weaver ants, which require a very high level of humidity that this formicarium may not be able to provide.

Are the products suitable for kids?
Yes, our products are suitable for kids, but adult supervision is always recommended. Please be aware that the Nest Formicarium contains small parts that could pose a choking hazard to young children.

We've gathered the measurements of all Nest sizes here for you. When buying a Nest you do not have to buy any extra Antgates, unless you have very specific connection needs. For normal usage, they are all included. The same goes for the sponges.

All three sizes of Nest work seamlessly together. They form a perfect shell-like shape when they are all assembled, but they can be arranged however you like. You can build your own version and create something unique.
Nest formicaria are built to be connected directly to our Outworld. But you can also connect to other brand's outworlds with vinyl tubing. Just attach the tubing to our "Antgate Tube" product and then connect the pieces.
This is a great product that combines both functionality and aesthetics. The only minor drawback is that when opening and closing the outworld lid, the vibrations can travel to the nest and cause some stress to the ants. However, this can be largely avoided by connecting the outworld and nest with a tube instead of attaching them directly, so it isn't a major issue.
As a customer living in South Korea, the one thing I find really unfortunate is the very long shipping time. It usually takes about a month for an order to arrive. If it weren't for that, I would consider these products practically perfect.
Love the new outworld max, tunnels and accessories. Now have 2 sets ups for 2 different species.
The only thing I would ask for is it to have been slightly bigger for the price me maybe have come with a tube to connect. Also just when you snap on the tunnel it doesn’t sit properly if the tunnel opening beside it has a cap on it. Overall though great and functional product and I got everything that was advertised.

This is such a cool idea, I love the idea of a modular ant farm that is customizable based on your personal taste as well as space. I bought one as a gift for a friend and he absolutely loves it! The outworld module lets you design and create a little terrarium that your ants can explore, which I adore. Excited to see my friend design his and then get his first ants!
Its a great box lol. Plenty of room to optimize the area for whatever species that you decide to keep or even throw in whatever flair you would like to add yourself.

The outworld design is done very well and the thought process behind the outworld and nest is very good although I did have a few issues which I feel could be resolved with a few tweaks,
The ports are all a little jiggly snd some of mine just wiggle entirely and i feel as if enough ants would just be able to push it out snd escape, Ive had to keep cotton wool permanently in 2 of the 4 outworld ports as I am a little paranoid about this. Also what I didnt see listed anywhere on the site was that if you pick the outworld up by the glass (stupid i know but I was quickly trying to move it while decorating it) the bottom half will just come off, I dont know if this is an intentional design or if mine wasnt put together correctly however i spilled dirt all over my floor 🫠 I fixed it by gluing the glass back down however I then also came upon a new problem with the ports, if any sand or dirt gets into them (which can easily happen) they are very hard to remove the dirt from and it results in making the ports not fit flush anymore or becoming very hard and scratchy to remove.
I did write an email to support asking questions multiple times however I feel that the support team is too small as I have not recieved a response even to an email I sent before I bought the bundle.
I do really like the speed, Idea, quality and design however I feel as with all things it isnt just yet perfect and a larger team could definitely help.
The ventalation insert was too wide and it cracked the acrylic, so I had to sand down the insert to make it fit. Also, the green connector on the outwold side was chipped on the corner. These things are not a huge deal to me, they are just dissapointing considering the $70 price tag.
This company is absolutely wonderful! I was so thrilled when I got an email notification about there being a restock of their products because my finance has been non stop talking about them and how badly she’s been wanting an ant farm but only from AntKeepers. I immediately went on the website and placed an order! it was such great timing because her birthday was coming up. I received a thank you email from Linus the founder/sole independent owner followed by a shipping confirmation email and a downloadable user friendly guide for new/beginner antkeepers. We have not stopped talking about how wonderful this company is and recommend them to everyone!

I received my Outworld Max a couple weeks ago and noticed that there was a crack in the acrylic. Although I don’t think a small crack is the end of my world, it still shouldn’t be there. I sent a message to Antkeepers and didn’t even get a reply. I’m concerned about, and unhappy with, the lack of customer care.
Update: Antkeepers contacted me, had a resonable explanation for the delay in response I had experienced, and made things right by me. I appreciate this, have adjusted my rating, and will continue to give Antkeepers my business in the future.

the farm didnt have ventilation and killed my ants
Hello Matt, Linus here. I am so sorry to hear about your ants. Our Outworlds have ventilation through a metal net, and all of our modules, including Nest, Hubs, and Zones, have ventilation through small holes in the acrylic glass. We have thousands of consumers keeping their ants in our ant farms, and I have not heard about this before. Ok, but to expansive!
This is my first attempt at keeping ants. The equipment I bought is fantastic quality, looks and feels great when put together. The way the separate units can be opened and closed with a turn of a wheel without disturbing the inhabitants is genius, a simple idea but something not many other companies do.

Ive read you need to keep hydration in the nest normally this is done by injecting in water but your systems dont seem to have this, so how do i keep humidity in your nests?
Hello Simon. Humidity is easily kept through our yellow sponge, located in all Nest formicariums. It features a highly absorbing material that keeps the water for longer than other sponges, and it has a green lid that goes on top to block the water from evaporating up instead of into the nest. You can also add a Water Vial addon that will slowly give the sponge water over a longer time. /Linus
