Descripción

Bring your ant setup to life with a real colony of Lasius niger! Known as the black garden ant, this species is one of the most resilient and fascinating ants in Europe — and now you can invite them into your miniature world at home.

At the heart of every colony lies a queen. She is the life force, tirelessly laying eggs to grow her kingdom. Around her, the first workers already bustle with activity, tending to the brood, scouting for food, and caring for their queen. Over time, this small beginning will expand into a thriving society with hundreds, if not thousands, of ants — all working together in perfect harmony.

Keeping Lasius niger is like watching a living story unfold. From the first egg to the emergence of new workers, you’ll witness the incredible teamwork and determination of one of nature’s most successful species. Whether you’re entirely new to antkeeping or already have experience, this species is an ideal companion — hardy, adaptable, and endlessly fascinating to observe.

Your colony arrives safely housed in a test tube with a built-in water supply, ready to be connected to your formicarium or outworld. It’s the perfect starting point for your antkeeping journey — or a new addition to your growing collection.

Quick Care Advice – Lasius niger

- Keep in test tube until colony until the colony themselves decides to move out and into your Nest.
- Feed sugar water regularly (energy) and protein (small insects) 1–2 times per week. If the colony does not want it, they probably don't need it.
- Provide water: ensure test tube reservoir is intact, or add a liquid feeder. If the colony moves into your Nest, make sure the water sponge is always filled.
- Temperature: best at 20–25 °C.
- Hibernation: at least 3 months at 5–10 °C (Nov–Feb).
- Avoid disturbance: keep them in darkness and handle gently.
